DP World Infrastructure Surcharge (Update)

DP World Infrastructure Surcharge

The Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) have approached the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) again today (Thursday 13 April 2017) in terms of the DP World Australia (DPWA) fees scheduled for implementation on Monday 17 April 2017 – the matter remains under consideration.

While appreciating that DPWA met an earlier request from APSA and FTA to move away from the original implementation date of 3 April 2017, we again approached DPWA today seeking a further extension pending the ACCC review. DPWA denied this request confirming that the new fees as outlined in our notice from 16 March 2017 will commence at Melbourne and Sydney on Monday 17 April 2017.

While waiting with keen interest on the outcomes of the ACCC deliberations, FTA and APSA are continuing to work with affected stakeholders to prevent this as being an acceptable precedent that would allow other stevedores to follow with non-contestable cost recovery regimes.
