Customer Notice – China–Australia Trade: January 2026 GRI & Pre-Chinese New Year Planning Advisory
We would like to provide an early heads-up that shipping lines are planning to implement General Rate Increases on the China–Australia trade during the first half of January 2026. These adjustments are expected to apply to base ocean freight rates from major Chinese ports to Australia and reflect standard post-peak season capacity and cost realignments by carriers.
In addition, as the industry approaches the pre-Chinese New Year period, vessel space and equipment availability may tighten, which could impact sailing options and rate stability for January shipments. While the timing and level of these increases will vary by carrier, customers should be aware of potential rate movements and capacity constraints during this period. To help minimise disruption, we recommend planning shipments early and placing bookings at least four weeks in advance where possible. We will continue to monitor carrier announcements closely and provide updates as further information becomes available.
